Cumbres & Toltec Announces 2023 Schedule

By Railfan & Railroad Staff

CHAMA, N.M. — The Cumbres & Toltec Scenic announced recently its 2023 schedule. Along with its traditional excursions across the entire 64-mile narrow gauge railroad that crosses between Colorado and New Mexico, the railroad will also be offering shorter excursions that may appeal to families or railfans who also want to chase.

The season will kick off on Memorial Day Weekend with special weekend departures of the Chama Express between Chama and Cumbres Pass, the highest point on the railroad. The following weekend, starting June 3, the railroad will begin running trains between Chama and Antonito, Colo. Tickets on the All Aboard trips will cover the entire route and provide a bus ride back to their origin (either Chama or Antonito). The railroad is also running special half-day runs, either the Chama Limited or Antonito Limited, that go to Osier (the halfway point) and back. There are also a number of special excursions throughout the year, including a Geology Train and a visit from the Rio Grande Southern “Galloping Goose” in September.

From now until December 31, all tickets are 15 percent off.

“Last year, we released tickets earlier than ever and our fans were delighted. After all, what’s better than finding tickets to ride the Cumbres & Toltec under the tree? It makes for a very meaningful holiday gift and with the discount, we anticipate we’ll once again see a lot of holiday sales,” said C&TS President Scott Gibbs.
