Riverbank Work Forces Cuyahoga Valley to Adjust Schedule

INDEPENDENCE, Ohio — The Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad is adjusting its schedule through July as the railroad and the National Park Service work to address erosion along the Cuyahoga River. Last week, the railroad announced the river work would result in changes to its upcoming Steam in the Valley event featuring Nickel Plate Road 2-8-4 765.

Instead of trips running out of Akron Northside Station and Rockside Station, the steam excursions — and other trips this spring — will originate out of Rockside Station in Independence. Joe Mazur, president and CEO of the railroad, said the schedule of events will not change just the originating station.

“Steam in the Valley is an annual tradition at the railroad and we’re excited to offer it for the first time in May,” Mazur said. “We’re happy we can still bring this annual tradition to the area for everyone to enjoy.”

Customers who purchased tickets for the Steam in the Valley with a departure from the Akron Northside Station will receive communication from CVSR customer service via email. Customers who want a refund should contact customer service by Tuesday, March 29 at 5 p.m. Those who do not reach out before that time will automatically have their tickets moved to Rockside Station.
