Nickel Plate 765 to Return to Cuyahoga Valley in 2022

By Railfan & Railroad Staff

The 2022 calendar has yet to be hung, but it’s already getting filled with dates to see big steam. On Wednesday, the Fort Wayne Railroad Historical Society announced that Nickel Plate Road 2-8-4 765 would be heading to the Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad for a series of springtime excursions. While the trips to Ohio have become somewhat of an annual event for the big Berkshire, this is the first time 765 will be visiting in May.

Right now, the locomotive is scheduled to run on two different weekends on CSVR, including May 13 to 15 and May 20 to 22. The schedule includes “Steam in the Valley” excursions from Rockside Station on Saturday, May 14 and 21, and from Akron-Northside Station on Sunday, May 15 and 22. There will also be special nighttime runs on May 13 and 21, giving passengers the rare opportunity to ride behind steam in the dark. Those trips will include a special night photo opportunity. Other special events with 765 include dinner trains, a murder mystery trip, and even wine and cocktails trips (passengers must be 21 and older to ride).

Tickets go on sale to CVSR members on December 10 and the general public on December 14. For more information, visit their website
