Restored B&O EA Put on Permanent Display

BALTIMORE, Md. – The Baltimore & Ohio Railroad Museum’s latest restoration – EA 51 – was moved over the weekend from the roundhouse to the adjacent North Carshop, where it will be on permanent display.

To get the 51 into its slot on “Track 15,” numerous museum pieces were shuffled around on Saturday morning, including the coaches used on the “Mile One Express,” locomotives, and freight equipment.

Baltimore & Ohio 4-6-0 147, which was built in 1863, saw service during the Civil War and is normally on display in the roundhouse, was placed back on its normal display track where the EA had been parked this winter. The move of the 1863 locomotive made quite the contrast coupled to the museum’s GP7 6405 as it posed in the morning sunshine for a handful of photographers. The public was invited to watch the moves.

Baltimore & Ohio 51 emerged from the museum’s restoration shop in late January. Built by EMC in 1937, it was the first streamlined diesel-electric and set the stage for the later line of successful “bulldog” nose E and F series locomotives.

The museum is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily. For more information, visit BORail.org.
