Reading & Northern Offers RDC Excursions in 2021

PORT CLINTON, Pa. – Reading & Northern Railroad will offer more than three dozen trips with its classic Budd RDC cars between May and November.

Excursions will run between “Outer Station” along Route 61 north of Reading, Pa. and historic Jim Thorpe, but passengers can also board at Port Clinton and Tamaqua, according to the railroad. The first run is advertised tor May 8 and the last one for the year is Nov. 21. Passengers have a three and a half hour layover in Jim Thorpe with the opportunity to ride the Lehigh Gorge Scenic while in town.

Built between 1951 and 1958, the railroad rosters three of the stainless steel Budd cars. Number 9166 was built for the Boston & Maine, 9167 constructed for New Haven, and 9168 built for the New York Central.

Trips depart Reading at 9 a.m. and return by 6:30 p.m. with tickets starting at $39 per person. More information can be found at www.rbmnrr-passenger.com.
