Weeks after a devastating wildfire on the island of Maui, the Hawaiian Railway Society is having a fundraiser for the victims.
Last month, a series of wind-driven fires broke out on Maui, killing over a hundred people although at the time of this publication, many more are still missing. It was the deadliest wildfire in America in more than a century.
On September 2 and 3, the Hawaiian Railway Society will donate the proceeds of all ticket sales to the Maui Strong Fund and the Maui Humane Society. Reservations are encouraged and can be made by calling 808-681-5461.
The Hawaiian Railway Society is dedicated to preserving the memory of the state’s rail system and is the only operating railroad museum in Hawaii. The museum maintains a stretch of about 6.5 miles of track on Oahu, from Ewa to Nanakuli. Three vintage diesels have been restored to service and the group has cosmetically restored a number of steam locomotives. For more information, visit hawaiianrailway.com
