Gone in 60 Seconds: Popular Hudson River Rail Excursions Sell Out Again

By Railfan & Railroad Staff

NEW YORK CITY — People still love to ride trains. That’s the message officials with the United Railroad Historical Society of New Jersey are sharing this week after tickets for the second season of its popular Hudson River Rail Excursions sold out in just 60 seconds. This year, URHS is running 21 trips in June, September and October.

The excursions, which are run on the rear of a regular Amtrak train from New York City to Albany-Rensselaer, will feature NYC tavern-lounge 43 and observation-sleeper-lounge car Hickory Creek.

“We are astounded by the response to these trips,” said URHS President Kevin Phalon. “Our waiting list is long enough to run at least another 21 trips. What is especially remarkable is that we had this turnout with a $0 advertising budget. To us, that means there is genuine and substantial interest in railroad and heritage tourism here. That is good news for all of us in railroad preservation.”

URHS does not yet have firm plans to add more trips in 2022. Visit hudsonriverrail.com for more information.
