CN to Release Veterans Tribute Units

MONTREAL — Canadian National is expected to release two specially painted locomotives as a tribute to veterans in the United States and Canada in the coming days. Earlier this week, CN released digital renderings of the two ET44AC locomotives that show green and brown camouflage on the railroad’s traditional red and black scheme. One of the locomotives has a red poppy, a symbol of remembrance in Canada, and the other has a yellow ribbon.

“CN’s two new tribute locomotives pay homage to veterans and active military men and women across North America. Their custom design represents the proud footprint we have established across our network and our deep recognition for the veterans who live and work in the communities our trains pass through every day,” officials wrote.

Meanwhile, more than a month after the first CN heritage units appeared, officials are still offering few details about the scope of the program. In October, CN locomotives painted for the Grand Trunk, Wisconsin Central, Elgin, Joliet & Eastern, Illinois Central, and British Columbia Railway appeared on the system with rumors that the railroad planned to eventually produce 18 special paint schemes. The locomotives are reportedly being sent to Montreal for an eventual unveiling. Earlier this week, a spokesperson declined to comment when asked for additional information.
