UPDATE: Excursion Behind CP 2816 Cancelled

An excursion behind Canadian Pacific H1b 4-6-4 2816 has been canceled. The event’s sponsors, Railroading Heritage of Midwest America and Central States Steam Preservation Association, stopped selling tickets on Thursday just a week after the non-profits announced it. The run over Iowa Interstate on June 29, would be the first chance the public has had to ride behind the locomotive in more than a decade.

Trains reported that CPKC officials said there were scheduling conflicts with maintenance.

CP 2816 departed Calgary on April 26, for a tri-nation tour of Canada, the U.S. and Mexico to celebrate the merger of CP and Kansas City Southern to create CPKC. The locomotive was originally expected to be back in Canada by the end of June, but the schedule is now being adjusted.
