A General Electric B40-8W was restored to its original Santa Fe warbonnet livery by Railroading Heritage of Midwest America. The locomotive, B40-8W 537, made its public debut at the Silvis, Ill., shop on October 19.
Locomotive 537 was built in 1990 as part of Santa Fe’s famed “Super Fleet” of new EMD and GE units painted in the famous Santa Fe scheme. Santa Fe was the only railroad to order the B40-8W locomotive. A total of 84 were built. Most ended up on the BNSF roster while some have been sold off to short lines. Locomotive 537 was donated to RRHMA by BNSF in 2023.
