The Reading & Northern announced that it would be offering day-long excursions to Jim Thorpe, Pa., from both Reading and Pittston, on most weekends from April until November. It also announced that its popular Iron Horse Rambles behind Reading Company 4-8-4 2102 would take place on May 25, June 22 and August 17.

The trips out of Reading Outer Station will feature the railroad’s vintage RDCs, while the trips out of the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Regional Railroad Station in Pittston will be diesel-hauled. Passengers will also be able to board the trains en route, including at Port Clinton, Tamaqua, Penobscot and White Haven.

“We pride ourselves on offering these family-friendly train excursions for most of the year to allow tourists and locals alike to experience the natural beauty and history of this region,” said Josh Cascarella, Director of Passenger Operations in Reading. “Taking the train is a great way to avoid the traffic and parking congestion in the Jim Thorpe area.”
