Railfan & Railroad Magazine is retracting a story published on Friday, July 21, that erroneously stated the Great Lakes Central Railroad was considered for acquisition by Farmrail.
On Thursday, the magazine acquired a copy of a press release stating that a sale had occurred. The release had been circulating online as well. Believing it to be authentic, a story about the release was published Friday morning. Upon learning that the release was not authentic, Railfan & Railroad immediately took down the story. The magazine apologizes for the error.
“This story and document are completely false. GLC has not been acquired by Farmrail. Prior to this story, GLC had no communication with Farmrail and certainly was not negotiating a sale,” said Great Lakes Central Railroad President and CEO Jennifer Ferris.
Great Lakes Central Railroad and Farmrail seek to reassure employees and customers that Great Lakes Central Railroad has not been acquired by Farmrail and to confirm that no such negotiations have or are taking place.
