Popular Hudson River Rail Excursions Return for 2022

NEW YORK CITY — The popular Hudson River Rail Excursions will return for another year with an even busier schedule than its premiere in the fall of 2021. The excursion that revives the experience of the New York Central’s 20th Century Limited will make 21 runs in June, September and October.

The excursion, which is run on the rear of a regular Amtrak train from New York City to Albany-Rensselaer, will feature NYC tavern-lounge 43 and observation-sleeper-lounge car Hickory Creek.

The excursions have proved to be incredibly popular and last year the first round of tickets sold out in an improbable 60 seconds, forcing its organizer, the United Railroad Historical Society of New Jersey, to add more dates. This year, the group is going with an even bigger schedule with four weekends in June (Friday, Saturday and Sundays) and three weekends in October (Every Friday, Saturday and Sunday except for the third weekend). Tickets go on sale on April 22 at 10 a.m.

“The demand for these trips last year was far and beyond what we could have hoped for,” said URHS President Kevin Phalon. “It was humbling to find that so many are so passionate about history and about our old railroad cars. We are looking forward to another sell-out year.”
