The Railroad Museum of New England will operate a special train on the Naugatuck Railroad with photo stops and night photography opportunities on June 24, to raise funds for the repair of equipment damaged by vandals on May 9. The vandals spray-painted graffiti on the sides of railcars and smashed a window of NAUG X105, a Russell snowplow built in 1936 as Maine Central 70. The event will mark the first mainline appearance of Boston & Maine SW-1 1109 since it was repainted as it appeared on delivery in 1939.

Earlier in the day, the “Connecticut Ice Cream Train” will run hourly from noon to 3 p.m. The first segment of the “Night on the Naug” begins at 4:30 p.m., with the departure of the “Photo & Brisket Special” from Thomaston Station, which includes dinner at the Hindsight BBQ in Waterbury. The night photography event will begin with an 8 p.m. briefing at Thomaston and is expected to last until roughly 11:30 pm.

Advance tickets are required. They can be purchased through the RMNE Facebook page or online.

Featured equipment is expected to include NAUG 859 (GP9), NH 2019 (FL9-originally NH 2049) and other pieces of equipment. The event will occur rain or shine and attendees should be prepared for cool and possibly wet conditions. Photographers are advised to use an SLR or DSLR camera with a tripod and shutter release cable for best results. Flash lighting will be provided.
