Canadian Pacific H1b 4-6-4 2816 and the Final Spike Steam Tour will spend an extra week in Mexico and return to its home base in Calgary on July 10. CPKC released a revised schedule for the tri-nation tour on Monday.
The locomotive was originally supposed to return north about a week earlier but the railroad has decided to adjust the schedule to allow it to spend more time in Mexico and accommodate an excursion on June 29. The change also pushes back a planned display in Winnipeg, Man., from June 30 to July 6.
CP 2816 departed Calgary on April 26, for a tri-nation tour of Canada, the U.S. and Mexico to celebrate the merger of CP and Kansas City Southern to create CPKC. It is presently in Laredo, Tex. and will cross into Mexico this week. Locomotive 2816 was built by the Montreal Locomotive Works in 1930 and ran for CP until 1960. It returned to the CP fleet in the 2000s and ran for a decade before being stored in 2012. It returned to service in 2023.
