Light rail service in Baltimore has been suspended for weeks, but Maryland Transit Administration officials said they expect to resume operations “soon,” WBAL TV reports.
In October, one of the LRVs caught fire and a subsequent investigation found there were issues with the electrical conduits and connecting cables. Of the 41 vehicles inspected, 29 needed repairs. But repairing those cars has taken time and, as of this week, the service is still out.
“We are aiming for as quickly as we can. I can’t give you a date today, but we do recognize the impact on this,” MTA administrator Holly Arnold told the TV station.
Opened in 1992, the light rail line connects BWI Airport with downtown and the city’s northern suburbs on three lines serving 33 stations.
