A Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority car has found a new home at the Trolley Museum of New York in Kingston, the non-profit announced recently.

MARTA 510 was recently retired from service in Atlanta and was part of an order of cars built between 1979 and 1981. Within the museum’s collection, the subway car will represent the most recent era of rapid transit vehicles to be retired in the United States. It joins a growing number of buses, subway and trolley cars, and other rail equipment from not only New York but other northeastern cities and Europe in the museum’s collection. The public will have a chance to see the car for themselves on May 6, when the museum opens for the season.

MARTA’s CQ310s were built to operate as a single car with a cab on both ends. All MARTA cars are presently being replaced by four-car sets as part of a 224-order built by Stadler. The Trolley Museum of New York has been working for two years to get one of the CQ310 cars. Another has been preserved at the Southeastern Railway Museum in Georgia.

The Trolley Museum of New York was founded in Brooklyn in 1955 and has been in Kingston since 1983. It presently has a collection of more than two dozen transit cars. For more information, visit tmny.org
