Nevada Northern Looks to Buy Doodlebug

By Railfan & Railroad Staff

The Nevada Northern Railway Museum is looking to acquire a self-propelled “Doodlebug” rail car built in 1930 by the J. G. Brill Company. The car was most recently refurbished in 2019 for use on the Colebrookdale Railroad in Pennsylvania.

NNRY officials said they need to raise $403,000 by December 31, to cover the purchase price of the vehicle and the cost to move it from Pennsylvania to Nevada.

The railroad said the doodlebug would be used for mid-week runs when passenger counts are low. The doodlebug would save the railroad significantly on fuel and crew costs. For more information and to donate, visit NNRy.com
