CN Could Owe Mississippi Village 50 Years of Back Taxes

According to a report published by the Clarion Ledger, the village of Glendora, Miss., recently discovered that Canadian National, successor to Illinois Central, owed more than $800,000 in back taxes. Located just north of Jackson, the annual budget for the village populated by less than 300 is about $100,000. Legal negotiations are now playing out between the village and the railroad. Canadian National offered to pay the village $300,000, but Thomas said he told the company he won’t settle for anything less than $500,000.
