JIM THORPE, Pa. — Reading & Northern 4-6-2 425 will lead a series of excursions out of Jim Thorpe, Pa. on Aug. 14, 15 and 16. Earlier this week, the railroad announced that it had resolved a disagrement over taxes with the community and would be resuming its seasonal Lehigh Gorge Scenic excursions in August. To celebrate the return, the railroad’s former Gulf Mobile & Ohio 4-6-2 will have the honors of leading the first excursions of the year.
The railroad plans on running excursions every Friday, Saturday and Sunday through September with multiple departures each day. “We believe now is the right time to bring the joy of passenger railroading back to northeast Pennsylvania,” said railroad CEO Andy Muller.
